Year in Review

SYDNEY, 3 September 2022

It has been some time since we last published our monthly newsletter. The pace that this business is growing is literally taking up every minute of every day just to keep things on track. These are great problems to have but are not without their challenges and struggles. As we close out FY22 it’s time to take stock, look at what we have achieved and celebrate our customers, brand partners and our growing team of hard-working people.

Here are a couple of really big changes over the last twelve months.

  • We moved premises, and not just the business but our family as well
  • We doubled our revenue and managed to maintain our net margin as well
  • We developed new products for Defence, Motorsport, and Stadiums

Aside from the big and shiny achievements, the business actually runs on all the day to day transactions that when combined make up half our annual revenue.
Our rental division has grown but is still only a small fraction of our entire business. During Covid this came as a blessing as when rentals stopped, sales went up by more than we lost in rental. That was a mixture of on-purpose planning and some luck.

As we start our 5^th year of full time D2N my passion has not waned one bit, and for those close to me I must drive you mad talking about D2N all the time. Everyone in my life plays a part in how I approach life and business. Almost everyone I spent time with is on purpose, it’s because I feel that we add value to each other’s lives. For other business owners reading this, trust me when I say that you need to spend almost all your time investing in relationships. Is it there, in the middle of calling that friend back, making time to go see that person or even just telling them you love them that over time; makes the world of difference.

Thank you to each and every one of you.

Bring on FY23 #eyesforward

Staffing Update

We would like to welcome Stuart McBurney who joins us after working at Nova Entertainment over the last four or so years as a Broadcast Engineer. Stuart will form part of our product support team, but also working alongside rentals and larger projects where required.

Winding the clock back a little Rod Smith also joined the team back in May as our Rentals and Warehouse Manager. Rod has worked with me at Gearhouse Broadcast (Now Gravity Media), Riedel Communications, and Cutting Edge over the best part of 20 years now. He is a great addition to the team!

Product Update

Having sold over 3000 XLR4 covert kits now world-wide, we have updated the design to now offer a 90-degree version as well. Same Neutrik connectors, but at 90 degrees to make it even more practical for event/broadcast staff working on site.

AIDA have released a range of small form factor NDI | HX camera’s perfect for those hard to get to locations or where wet weather is an issue.

Kiloview continue to add to their product range with more cards available for their rack mount series. Then their most recent development in the N60 offering full NDI, 4K HDMI in both directions.

Hytera added the new ‘H’ series range earlier in the year with the HP6 and 7 now available cross the VHF and UHF bands. These high-performance radios offer improved audio quality and coverage over their predecessors.

RF Optic have also broadened their range of RF over Fibre and Optical Delay lines now extending up to 40GHz. RF over Fibre lines above 6Ghz now also come as a HSFDR product giving you even higher performance than before. All rack mount and ODU packages also include ethernet control adding in a layer of device management.

Rentals Update

We have been fortunate enough to be part of some really exciting projects over the last six months. These include State of Origin Series (JPJ Audio), Byron Bay Blues Festival, https://www.d2n.com.au/byron-blues-fest-chooses-wide-area-high-end-comms-solution-from-d2n-technology-solutions/ Supercars https://www.d2n.com.au/matt-stone-racing-chooses-high-end-comms-solution-from-d2n-technology-solutions/ , Illuminate Adelaide https://www.illuminateadelaide.com/ , NRL Women’s League https://www.nrl.com/nrlw/ and much more.

We added around 450 Hytera https://www.d2n.com.au/product/product-category/two-way-radios/hytera-two-way-radios/ HP682 radios to the fleet back in March. These have been received really well with the ability to add multiple accessory profiles meaning that change in level when you move from a RSM or Covert kit to a headset is a thing of the past.

Our Bolero, FreeSpeak II and GreenGo intercom systems are ever-popular and just seem to roll on from one gig to the next.

We also moved our rental management over to RentMan https://rentman.io/ a month or so ago. After having used (and been an advocate of) RentalPoint for literally decades it was time to move on to something new.

PR Update

Honestly, we are just so blessed to have such great projects to be able to share with our audience. From multiple Supercars https://www.d2n.com.au/premiair-racing-chooses-comms-solution-from-d2n-technology-solutions/ teams, to the Bluesfest, to flying Race Cars https://www.d2n.com.au/d2n-reaches-for-the-skies-with-airspeeder-and-alauda-aeronautics/ and our new partnership with Calrec https://www.d2n.com.au/calrec-brand/ we feel that the stage is set for a blockbuster year ahead.
