November was a month mixed with ‘goal kicker’ and ‘heart breaker’ for all of us here at D2N. We made budget, we have secured new premises to cater to the growing business, but we lost two really close friends. That balancing act of juggling work and life, rings truer when you see it as life/work balance where the former is the priority and should really underpin all of our efforts in this world. Sometimes it feels like it is impossible to see past the issue right in front of you, but, over time, everything passes.
In business we use a series of 90-day plans that are drawn from our 3 and 5 year plans. We measure, we use data, we talk to lots of people, and we engage. Some of this was learnt by running other businesses of my own but also working inside much larger companies. It’s that culmination of experience over time that gives you the opportunity to learn and see different perspectives. Never was this more the case than my time with Jeff Bolt. He was one of my closest friends over several decades. He really made me think about what I was doing, he challenged me and pushed me, but equally celebrated with me on those successes.

This month we have some new and innovative kit to showcase. First cab off the rank is the Li.LAC UV-C Microphone disinfector. Enclosed in a 3RU rack mount enclosure, the device offers a surface disinfection rate of 99.99% and has been approved by the independent, accredited laboratory Opsytec Dr. Gröbel GmbH, in Germany.

People
This month we celebrate the huge amount of effort Kim Kelly puts into our business. Leaving her full time role in construction around 18 months ago, Kim joined the D2N team to manage all our financials, purchasing and stock control. Kim and I work alongside each other both in work and at home. We have an absolute ball and 99.99% of the time we just knuckle down get the job done.
There is no way we would be where we are without all of her commitment and never say die attitude. Having spent the last 11 years together I think her most used quote would have to be, ‘when can I have a weekend away – on my own’. I keep telling her she wouldn’t know what to do with all that spare time
Rentals
Someone lit a fire under the events market last month. Our rental business has seen some great growth and new customers coming on board. Our range of two-way radios, intercom systems, wireless audio and IP video encoding just keeps on growing.
One highlight would be the national broadcast job we did for DMC Digital. For this we delivered an Australia wide GreenGo intercom solution, TVU HD video transmission package all backed with TVU routers.
The team at Tailem Bend also took up quite a large Hytera radio hire for a series of Motorsport events during the month. We installed the original radio network at the track around 5 years ago so it’s great to be able to service customers for that long.
JPJ Audio and the NW Group also kept us very busy with a series of radio and intercom hires right up to Xmas.

November was another massive month for Motorsport; however, it did not stand alone in terms of who we provided solutions for. Hytera PoC products are gaining more traction every month with the security industry now embracing the technology.
One thing we have seen steadily grow is the take up of our packaged two-way radio solutions for Motorsport. We build them with Hytera, Kenwood, ICOM and FDP radio options so just about any budget can be catered for.
We also provided more encrypted radio kit for the NRL – Rabbitohs and have taken up a long-term contract with the NRL – Titans to provide a radio solution ongoing from 2022 onwards. We see the sporting federations and teams as a real focus for us given our background in developing both intercom and radio solutions across several sports.
Sales of the Axiwi full duplex communications systems was strong throughout November delivering a system for the Costa Group and their warehousing, goods transport team. We also moved a number of systems in the Marine industry for large luxury cruise vessels. Axiwi systems are a cost-effective small form factor communications unit suitable for close range full duplex comm’s.
Across the accessory’s ranges, Hytera, Kenwood, Raytalk and Riedel where all quite strong. A few standouts would be our 4 Pin XLR Covert kits, Riedel RUN headsets, and for the radio brands covert kits, speaker mic’s and headsets seemed to be the flavour of the month.

Lastly! With Xmas just days away now, it is time once again to say thank you to all of our customers, partners and staff. 2021 has been one of those years we will all refer to as time passes on. For many it meant absolute change having to learn new skills and even change industry. For some it yielded great success with business ventures popping up out of necessity and opportunity. 2022 will bring a new set of challenges, but will also bring new doors to be opened. Hold your family close, life is so fragile.
